Last Friday, on our first virtual visit, we explored the history of Paris, and especially the history of the Île de la Cité. We focused on the sacred-secular division of the island, with the palace of the prefects of Rome, and later, the kings of France, on the western side, and religious spaces, first the Temple of Jupiter, and later Christian churches (culminating with the Gothic cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris that we know today) on the eastern side.
Today, we're going to do a "zoom" on the medieval form of the Palais de la Cité, the palace where the kings of France lived from the 11th to the 14th centuries, and one of its most celebrated structures: the Sainte-Chapelle.
